The best way to get back at Rowley was to get a new best friend of my own.
*get back at somebody : ~에게 복수하다, 앙갚음하다
His mom said she was excited to see Fregley with a “playmate,” which was a term I was not too enthusiastic about.

I decided that I should just pull the plug on this stupid idea and go home.
*pull the plug on somebody/something : (남의 사업·계획 등을) 중단시키다[끝장나게 만들다]
But things started to get out of hand with Fregley pretty quickly. When I was looking out the window, Fregley broke into my backpack and ate the whole bag of jelly beans I had in there.
*get out of hand : 과도해지다, 감당할 수 없게 되다
*break into something : (건물에) 침입하다, (자동차 문 등을) 억지로 열다
Fregley’s one of these kids who’s not supposed to eat any sugar, so two minutes later, he was bouncing off the walls.

That’s when Fregley slipped a piece of paper under the door.

That’s the last thing I remember before I blacked out.
*black out : (잠시) 의식을 잃다 The driver had probably blacked out at the wheel. 아마 운전자가 운전 중에 깜빡했던 것 같았다. (=faint)
I came to my senses a few hours later. After I woke up, I cracked the door open, and I heard snoring coming from Fregley’s room. So I decided to make a run for it.
*come to one’s senses : 되찾다, 본심으로 되돌아가다, 잠이 깨다, 의식이 돌아오다, 명석하게 생각하기 시작하다
*make a run for it : 필사적으로[급히] 도망치다
Mom and Dad were not happy with me for getting them out of bed at 2:00 in the morning. But by that point, I could really care less.
