Well, now I’ve gone and done it.
*go and do something : ~해 버리다[놓다] (남이 멍청한 일을 했다고 화를 낼 때 씀)
*I’ve gone and done it. : 멍청한 짓을 해버렸다.
I put Rodrick’s new headphones on and cranked up the volume really high.
*crank something up : (기계 등을) 돌아가게 하다, (음악 등의) 소리를 높이다
It turns out I didn’t have the headphones plugged into the stereo. So the music was actually coming through the speakers, not the headphones.
*turn out : 모습을 드러내다, (일·진행·결과가 특정 방식으로) 되다, ~인 것으로 드러나다[밝혀지다] *나중에 알고보니
Dad marched me up to my room and shut the door behind him, and then he said - Let’s you and me have a talk, Friend.
*march : 행진[행군]하다, 행군하듯 걷다, (단호한 태도로 급히) 걸어가다
*up to : ~까지
Whenever Dad says “friend” that way, you know you’re in trouble. The first time Dad ever said “friend” like that to me, I didn’t get that he was being sarcastic. So I kind of let my guard down.
*be in trouble : 곤경에 빠지다
*sarcastic [ sɑːr|kæstɪk ] : 빈정대는, 비꼬는
*let one’s guard down : 틈을 보이다, 경계태세를 늦추다.
I guess he decided he’d rather be in bed than standing in my room in his underwear.
*would rather~ (than) : [보통 ’d rather로 줄여짐] (~하기 보다는 차라리) ~하겠다[하고 싶다] She’d rather die than give a speech.
He told me I was grounded from playing video games for two weeks, which is about what I expected. I guess I should be glad that’s all he did.
*ground : (자녀에 대한 벌로) 나가 놀지[외출하지] 못하게 하다. You’re grounded for a week!
While you’re waiting, you do all these nice things to try to get off easier.
*get off easy : 가벼운 꾸지람으로 끝나다, 쉽게 해결되다
But then after a few days, right when you forget you’re in trouble, that’s when she lays it on you.
*lay something on somebody : (골치 아픈 것을) ~에게 하게 하다
