Every time Dad kicks me out of the house to do something sporty.
Unfortunately, the only games I can play at Rowley’s are car-racing games and stuff like that.
*kick somebody out (of something) : (~에서) ~를 쫓아내다
*stuff like that = something like that
whenever I bring a game up to Rowley’s house, his dad looks it up on some parent’s website.
*up to : ~까지
*look something up : (사전·참고 자료·컴퓨터 등에서 정보를) 찾아보다
I’m getting a little sick of playing Formula One Racing with Rowley.
All that you have to do to beat Rowley is name your car something ridiculous at the beginning of the game.
And then when you pass Rowley’s car, he just falls to pieces.
*get sick of : 진절머리 나다
*beat : (게임·시합에서) 이기다
*ridiculous : 웃기는, 말도 안 되는, 터무니없는
*fall to pieces : 다 허물어져 가다, 기능이 멈추다
I ran through the neighbor’s sprinkler a couple times to make it look like I was all sweaty, and that seemed to do the trick for Dad.
But my trick kind of backfired, because as soon as Mom saw me, she made me go upstairs and take a shower.
*seemed to do the trick : 해결책이나 방법이 효과가 있다
*backfire : 역효과를 낳다
Us kids have pretty much figured Fregley out by now, but I don’t think the teachers have really caught on yet.

*by now : 지금쯤은 이미, 이제
*catch on : ~을 이해하다
Today, I probably would have gone up to Rowley’s on my own anyway, because my brother Rodrick and his band were practicing down in the basement.
*on one’s own : 혼자서, 자력으로
*would have pp : ~했을텐데(했을것이다)
could have pp : ~할수도 있었다.
should have pp : ~했어야 했다.
Rodrick’s band is really awful, and I can’t stand being home when they’re having rehearsals.
*awful : 끔찍한
*awesome : 경탄할 만한, 기막히게 좋은
*can’t stand : 참을 수 없다
You might think he spelled it that way to make it look cooler, but I bet if you told Rodrick how “Loaded Diaper” is really spelled, it would be news to him.
Dad was against the idea of Rodrick starting a band, but Mom was all for it.
*be against : ~에 반대하다
*be all for : ~에 대찬성이다
