Rowley was so enthusiastic about it that I tried my best to act like I was happy anyway.

We went back inside, and Rowley showed me his Christmas loot.

Earlier today, me and Manny were horsing around in the basement.

Right when I was about to let Manny go, he slapped my hand and made me drop the thread. And guess what? That fool swallowed it. “Gulp”
*be about to do : 막 ~을 하려고 하다
*gulp : 꿀꺽꿀꺽 삼키다, 벌컥벌컥 마시다
Well, Manny completely lost his mind. He ran upstairs to where Mom was, and I knew I was in big trouble.
*lose one’s mind : 미치다, 실성하다, 열망하다, 열광하다
*be in trouble / get in trouble : 곤경에 빠지다
Manny took a while to look over the things on the plate.
*take a while to : ~하는데 시간이 걸리다
It will take a while for the drug to work out of your system. 그 약이 체내에서 분해되는 데 시간이 좀 걸릴 것이다.
*look over : ~을 대충 훑어보다[살펴보다]
That’s why I got sent to bed at 7:00 and I’m not downstairs watching the New Year’s Eve special on TV. And that’s also why my only New Year’s resolution is to never play with Manny again.
