4/23(Tue) 101-105p Flashcards
Rodney James tried out to be the Tin Man, but he got stuck with being the Shrub.
*Tin Man : 양철나무꾼
*be[get] stuck with : 싫은 일을 강요당하다
The key has stuck in the lock. / We were stuck in a traffic jam.
He found a way to sneak a video game into his costume, and I’ll bet that really makes the time go by.
I sneaked up the stairs.
(흔히 허락을 받지 않고) 몰래 하다[가져가다] We sneaked a look at her diary.
(하찮은 것을) 몰래 챙기다[가져가다] I sneaked a cake when they were out of the room.
*time goes by : 세월이 흐르다, 시간이 지나다.
The play is only a couple of days away, and I have no idea how we’re going to pull this thing off.
*pull something off : (힘든 것을) 해내다[성사시키다] We pulled off the deal.
First of all, nobody has bothered to learn their lines, and that’s all Mrs. Norton’s fault.
Today, the kid’s mom came in and said she wanted her child to walk around on two legs, because crawling around on all fours would be too “degrading”
This poster is offensive and degrades women.
She said everyone “deserves” a chance to sing in the play.
So today we spent an hour learning the worst song that’s ever been written.
You deserve a rest after all that hard work.
Thank God Rodrick won’t be in the audience to see me humiliate myself.
*humiliate : 굴욕감을 주다 I didn’t want to humiliate her in front of her colleagues.
Mrs. Norton said the play is going to be a “semiformal occasion” and I know there’s no way Rodrick is going to wear a tie for a middle school play.
But today wasn’t all bad. Toward the end of practice, Archie Kelly tripped over Rodney James and chipped his tooth because he couldn’t stick his arms out to break his fall.
