3/9- Veins (Exam 2) Flashcards

1
Q

What is the net filtration pressure (NFP)?

A

Overall force moving in and out of vessel

NFP = net hydrostatic pressure - net colloid pressure

Net colloid pressure is blood colloid osmotic pressure

Q

What happens if the net filtration pressure is positive or negative?

Q

What are veins or venous circulation?

A

Where most of your blood is

Acts as blood reservoir

Thin walls that stretch

Blood in veins are under low pressure

Q

What is venoconstriction?

A

Veins constricting and push blood to arteries

Vasomotor center controls this by sending sympathetic signal to veins

Constricting smooth muscle of tunica media of veins

Q

What are 3 tricks employed to get blood back to heart?

A

1) one way valves- blood can’t flow backwards
2) venous constriction- anything that can constrict a vein (ex: moving)
3) pressure changes in the chest when breathing- pressure drops in chest when you take a breath and blood is drawn to that
