The ISIU is responsible for conducting investigations of the following criminal offenses:
- Extortion;
- Food tampering;
- Human trafficking;
- Murder for hire;
- Nuisance phone calls;
- Obscene/harassing phone calls (if suspect is unknown);
- Police impersonator;
- Threats targeting specific JSO employees, judicial officers (including judges and attorneys
employed by the State Attorney’s Office [SAO]), or their immediate family when the threat
is related to the employment of the JSO employee or judicial officer; - Stalking (if suspect is unknown); and
- Stalking of local celebrities, government officials, or influential people regardless of whether
the suspect is known or unknown
Integrity and Special investigations callout criteria (24 hours a day)
When any employee of the COJ or its independent agencies, constitutional officers, or
board or commission members have been accused of, allegedly involved in, or arrested
for a criminal offense.
The following criminal offenses require a supervisor to notify an ISIU detective via the
Investigative dispatcher:
a. Extortion;
b. Food tampering (suspect present);
c. Human trafficking (victim/suspect present);
d. Murder for hire;
e. Police impersonator (suspect present);
f. Stalking (if suspect is unknown);
g. Stalking of local celebrities, government officials, or influential people regardless of
whether suspect is known or unknown; and
h. Threats targeting specific JSO employees, judicial officers (including judges and
attorneys employed by the SAO), or their immediate family when the threat is related to
the employment of the JSO employee or judicial officer.
. The following criminal offenses require an officer to route a report to the ISIU office:
Nuisance phone calls; and Obscene or harassing telephone calls (if suspect is unknown).
The commission of an act or acts by an employee with a wrongful or criminal
intent and for the purpose of obtaining compensation and/or other benefit.
Corruption
The Florida Safe Harbor Act was enacted on January 1st, 2013 with the intent to ensure
the safety of_______who have been trafficked for sexual exploitation.
