what are the components of the upper and lower urinary systems?
upper - kidneys and ureters
lower - urinary bladder, urethra and urethral meatus
where are the kidneys located?
retroperitoneal
right lower as under gall bladder
lovated at t12-l3
resting on top of adrenal glands
why is the bladder prone to trauma injuries in cars?
sitting above the pelvic sympesis and seat belt can snap in and burst bladder
how long are the male and female urethras?
male 18-23 cms
femal aroung 3-8cm
what is prostate hyperplasia?
where prostate gets larger in size
prostate pushes down on urethera which can impact on the urinary flow - high post residual flow left in bladder
causes more utis as uring sits in there for longer
why are females more suceptable to utis?
proximity to vagina and anus and small stright tube
