what is the definitiion of acute pain for this CPG?
less than 4 weeks old
what is cauda equina syndrome?
arises from compresson of nerve roots in lower spinal cord. symptoms include saddle anesthseia - altered senstion around groin and inner thigh area, incontenece and leg weakness
what can acute back pain be an indicator of?
aortic anurisum disceting
cancer
if a paitent is suspected to have a vertable infection or cancer how should they be trasported?
can go by other means if demed appropriate
when should you not proceed with this CPG?
pain is not isolated to lower back area - ie chest, abdoman or lower limb pain
suspected cauda equain- loss of bladder/bowel, saddle anastheia, lower limb numbness or weakness
suspected vertabral fracture- hx of trauma or osteoporosis or chronic steriod use
suspected AAA
pain unable to be controlled by oral anelgesics
pain suspected to be from cancer- hx unexplained wieghtloss
suspected vertebral infection- fever or recent infectiom, hx iv drug use or immunocompromised
if the pt is able to ambulate and acess alternative care what sould be done?
provide pt with self-care advise
maintain mobility and avoid extended rest and use regualr oral anelgesics untill revewi
