establised cardiovascular disease
aboriginal/torres strit islander > 35
people over 35 china, indian
people age over 40 with b i over 30 orhypertension
people on antipshycotic drugs
history gestational diabetes
family history
people with ausdrisk score 12 or above
when should screening be done?
opportunistic in obese pts
3 yerly from age 40 in gen pop or 18 in indigenous populations
if pt has impared glucose tolerence test - annual screening required
what is the ausdrisk assessment tool?
online tool that tells u the risk areas and risk for developing diabetes in the next 5 years
what is the normal fasting range bgl?
fasting 8-10 hours before test <5.5
what is the hb1ac test?
tests percentage of glucose that is attached to blood
normal <6.5%
>6.5% on 2 more more occasioans diagonist
what are the three diagnositc tools for diabetes diagnosis?
fasting flucose >5.5 2 occasions
bgl >11 any oaccasion
Hb1ac >6.5% on 2 occasions
what are some factors that influence hb1ac?
low - anemaia, blood and iron transfusions, acute blood loss, chronic kidney disease
high- iron deficency anameia, splenectomy, alcohol misuse
what is a oral glucose tolerence tesst?
baseline fasting glucose
75g carbs
blood glucose at 1 hour and at 2 hours
fasting glucose > 7.0 or 2 hour glucose > 11 mol diagonsitic
