when should you not proceed with this CPG?
if wound needs acute hospital managment due to : uncontrolled bleeding, neurovascular imparemnt, penetrating injury or crush injuries, other injuries requiring manamgnt, pain unable to be controlled with oral analgesics, suspected non-acidental or self harm attemepet
WOund needs palstic surgury: to special areas or suspected muscle/tnedon damage
wound at risk of infection or impared healing: forgine material uable to be cleaned out
bite wounds, wound over 6 hours old signs of infection, co-morbidities eg diabtetes, peripheral vascular diseas, immunocmpromised
if the bleeding has been controlled and pt is able to acess primary care for further wound manamgent, what should be done?
irrigate wound as appropriate
refer pt to primary care provider for follow up as soon as possible for further wound managment
confrim primary care rpovider is appripriate and can see the pt in 6 hours
consdier paracetamol
provide health sheet and confirm understanding
what is the basic care for simple wounds?
irrigate with normal saline and cover with moist combine dressing
if not bleeding and free from debreis wound may be covered with a film dressing ie tegeaderm
why might wounds need referal to a GP or practice neruse?
non steril agent causing wound
may lead to infection
antibiotics or tetnus may need to be given prophylacticlally
how long is ideal for wound closure to occur?
6-10 hours within injury
make sure nurse/practice doctor preforms these services
what needs to be assessed?
access to primary care? and bleeding controlled?
