overdose on meds
unwill/unable eat carbs
- unabe to be monitored 4 hours responsible
no diagnosis
suspected causes need investigiation ie infection
injury/seizure sustained
pregnancy
what is the risk of oral hypoglycemics?
long duration of action can cause recurrent hypoglycemia
what can trigger hypoglycemia in pts without a history of diabtes?
endocrine disorder, drug/alcohol overdose, tumor, sepsis
what are some suitable longer acting carbs a pt might eat after an episode?
sandwhich, fruit or yoghurt
what is an appropriate source of clugoce for future episodes?
6-7 jelly beans
1 tabelspoon honey
200ml fruit juice
150-200ml soft drink
20g glucose tablets
if pt left at home what should be done?
confirm bgl > 4 after 10 mins
iv removed
pt understands advice
pt to doctor/endocrinologist within 24 hours
