Visual perception p2 Flashcards
Form
involves perception of line lengths, orientation and intersection they make. Also based on subjective experience
Distance and Depth
Perception depends on both monocular (one eye) and binocular (both eyes) components
Monocular
Depend on learned association. Cues:
Occlusion (whats in front)
Relationship of size/distance
Motion parallax (what is further based on movement)
Binocular component
Arises from the fact that our eyes are 6cm apart. Creating different images. Combined with LGN
Binocular rivalry
Combined percept should be fused, but it does not. They switch. Rivalry between the info coming from left and right.
Motion
Subjective experience when a sequence of different but related images is presented to the retina over a short time. Processed in area V5
Aperture problem
Many combinations of speed and direction can give rise to the sequence of images falling on the retina.
Apparent motion
Two static stimuli presented close create sense of motion. Phi-phenomenon (gestalt)
