Posners cueing task, endogenous Flashcards
1
Q
Posners task
A
To study spatial attention behaviourally. endogenous has a central arrow cue.
2
Q
3 condition
A
Valid cue; arrow points to target
Invalid cue; Arrow points opposite to target
Neutral cue; arrows point in both directions
3
Q
3 important facts
A
Participants have the choice to use the cue or not. They don’t have to fixate
Cue validity matters, if it’s not predictive people stop using cue
It takes time before attention can be moved. Has to be at least 200 ms between cue & target or it won’t work
4
Q
Results
A
Valid cue: best accuracy and fastest RT
Invalid: RT slower and accuracy lower than neutral
BUT’ only if there’s 200 ms between cue & target and the predictive value is 70-80%
