External ear
Consists of the concha and the pinna. Collects and focuses sound energy (like the lens/cornea in the eye)
Middle ear
Sound energy hits the eardrum; the tympanic membrane. This is connected to three little bones; Malleus, incus and the stapes
Oval window
Where the malleus - incus - stapes connects to the internal ear
Internal ear
Cochlea with 3 fluid filled chambers.
Basilar membrane
Inside of cochlea, filled with haircells of which the tips are called stereocilia. Movement of these cells cause depolarazation aka action potental
Tonotopic organization
Low freq travels further, so hits farther in the ear. Based on the freq it hits a location. High freq is heard at the oval window, low freq is heard at the apax
