The eye Flashcards
What we see
Electromagnetic waves (projected by light) that are reflected from objects. Dependent on frequency (slow or long waves) you see colours
Human eye sensitivity
Wavelengths between 400-700 nm
Primary visual pathway
Route from the eye to the visual cortex in the occipital lobe.
Visual field info is projected onto retina. Left is sent to right side (contralateral)
Optic chiasm
Part where the nerves partially cross in the brain.
The eye
Light is filtered by cornea, pupil and lens, and than projected on retina (upside down)
Fovea
What is in your fixation. What you’re not fixated on is presented parafovially.
Retina
Filled with photoreceptors. Rods and Cones
Rods
Primarily concerned with perception of light (parafovea)
Cones
Concerned with wave length so color and detail (at fovea)
Blind spot
Filled by brain, is where the nerve passes the eye.
