Vecuronium Flashcards
Vecuronium- Name
Norcuron
Vecuronium- Class
Nondepolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant
Vecuronium- MoA
Inhibits neuromuscular transmission by competitively binding with acetylcholine motor endplate receptors resulting in muscle paralysis.
Vecuronium- Indications
pharmacologically assisted endotracheal intubation
or RSI
Vecuronium- Contra
use with caution in patients with severe hepatic disease, impaired electrolyte balance
use with caution with severe cardiovascular disease
Vecuronium- S/E
CNS: residual skeletal muscle weakness
Respiratory: respiratory depression
Other: Malignant Hyperthermia
Vecuronium- Routes
IV, IO
Vecuronium- A. Dose
0.08 – 0.10 mg/kg
Vecuronium- P. Dose
(> 1 year): 0.08 – 0.10 mg/kg
Vecuronium- EXTRAS
Precautions: Pregnant or Nursing mothers, patients with myasthenia gravis
Interactions:
1) Diuretics may increase or decrease neuromuscular blockade
2) narcotic analgesics increase respiratory depressant effects
3) phenytoin (Dilantin®㋿) may cause resistance to neuromuscular blockade
Onset < 1 minute, peak effects in 3-5 min, duration 25-40 mins.
