Vascular System Wk2 Flashcards
What does the internal carotid artery pass through in the skull?
Passes through carotid canal
in temporal bone
What do the vertebral arteries pass through?
- Transverse foramina of C6 - C1
- Pass through foramen
magnum from subclavian art. - Join to form the basilar artery
What are the 4 divisions of the internal carotid artery?
Cervical, petrous, Cavernous and cerebral
Cervical part
Located in the lateral pharyngeal space
Petrous part
(2) Petrous part: within carotid canal of petrous part of temporal bone
Cavernous part
(3) Cavernous part: S-shaped bend within cavernous sinus
Cerebral Part
(4) Cerebral part: within the chiasmatic cistern of subarachnoid space
Incoming blood from COW is
internal carotid arteries and vertebral arteries
Outcoming blood from COW is
Anterior cerebral, Middle cerebral and posterior cerebral arteries
Communicating arties from COW are
basilar artery, anterior and posterior communicating arteries
What is the blood supply to brainstem?
Basilar artery: Primarily vertebral aa
Pontine arteries
Cerebellar aa: SCA = most rostral
AICA = most caudal; PICA = from vertebral aa
Cavernous Sinus is paired and is associated with
- internal carotid art
- CN III (oculomotor)
- CN IV (trochlear)
- CN V1 and CN V2 (trigeminal)
- CN VI (abducens)
Caverns forms with the
invagination of dura and the Alignment with dural partitions
Outer periosteal layer follows
Bone
Inner meningeal layer forms partitions
