Facial nerves have multiple nuclei
in the brainstem
Facial carries multiple modalities
somatic motor (muscles of facial expression); visceral motor - lacrimal gland, general sensory - skin around ear, nasopharnynx, palate
special sensory - taste (2/3 ant. tong)
Facial nerve exits from the medial side of
internal auditory meatus (vestibularcochlear nerve also exits there)
For the lateral side, the facial nerve
stylomastoid foramen (muscles of facial expression)
What are the 5 different regions of the facial
temporal, zygomatic, buccal, marginal, mandibular and cervical
Facial receives Sensory info from the
ext aud meatus (GSA) and ant 2/3 tong (SSA)
The condition of paralysis of facial nerve is called
Bell’s Palsy
