cranial 5 Flashcards
What is the cranial nerve trigeminal classified as
Sensory - touch, temperature and pain information
What are the three branches
Opthalamic (sensory) (V1); Maxiliary (sensory) (V2); mandibular (sensory & motor)(V3)
Opthalamic sensory branch passes through
superior orbital fissure
Maxillary nerve passes through
foramen rotundum
Mandibular nerve passes through the
foramen ovale
What is the acronym for remembering the foramen?
SRO
Opthalamic nerve carries sensory info from
EYes, lacrimal gland, sinuses, eyelid and dorsum of nose
Maxilliary nerve carries sensory info from
dura matter, nasopharynx, nasal cavity, teeth, sinuses & skin (nose, cheek, lip, lower eyelid)
Mandibular nerve carries sensory info from
lower jaw, lower lip, anterior 2/3 tongue , cheek, teeth, mucous membranes, mandible, dura in middle cranial fossa
Mandibular nerve carries motor info to
muscles of mastication - temporalis, masseter, medial and lateral ptergyoids
Trigeminal Neuralgia is
sharp pain of face, pain is severe, incidences are becoming frequent, no teeth sore
