TST chapter 11 Flashcards
ventilation
systematic removal of heated air, smoke, gases or other airborne contaminants
natural ventilation
techniques that use the wind ,convection currents to ventilate a structure
tactical ventilation
a methodical thought out approach to changing the ventilation profile of a structure
mechanical ventilation
the use of fans …blowers..smoke ejectors or fire streams
burning regime….start with ignition
- incipient
- growth
- fully involved
- decay
whitish -gray smoke indicates
cellulose-based materials are burning an atmoshere with abundant oxygen. (wood, paper)
optical density and opacity
describes how difficult it is to see thru smoke…high concentrations both very dense (thick) and opaque(not transparent) therefore impossible to see thru
physical density
describes how buoyant the smoke is….smoke that is buoyant will rise quickly and smoke that is not will hang close to the flooor.
hydrocarbon fuels
petroleum based organic compounds that contain only hydrogen and carbon
ventilation size up …4 building construction factors
- age and type of building
- positive construction features
- negative construction features
- occupancy - specific construction features
