lintel
support for masonry over an opening …usually made of steel angles or other rolled shapes
Corbel
bracket or ledge made of stone, wood , brick or other building material projecting from the face of a wall or column used to support a beam. cornice or arch.
Corbelling
use of a corbel to provide additional support for an arch
parapet
an extension of a masonry or steel wall that projects above a roof 1 foot or more……parapets usually do not have lateral support
collapse control zone
collapse zones are typically at least 1.5 times the height of the building all around the building perimeter …..the safest location for apparatus by the buildings corners
