BC chapter 3 Flashcards
stress forces in materials
tension…
shear……
compression….
tension
pulls the material apart , referred to as tensile stress.
compression
squeezzes the material, referredto as compressive stress
shear
slides one plane of material past an adjacent plane
external load stresses
Axial
Eccentric load
Torsional load
Axial load
load applied to the center of the cross-section of a member and perpendicular to that cross section
Eccentric load
load perpendicular to the cross section of the structural member which does not pass thru the center of the cross section
Torsional load
load applied off-center from the cross-section of the structural component and at a angle to or in the same plane as the cross section
Dead load
weight of the structure ,structure members ,building components and any other features permanetly attached
Live load
items within a building that are movable but are not included as a permanent part of the structure
Static load
load that is steady ,motionless, constant,or applied gradually
Dynamic load
loads that involved motion, including impact from wind ,falling objects and vibration ….also known as shock loading
Effects of wind on a structure
Direct pressure….
Drag………….
Negative pressure……
Rocking or buffeting….
Vibration…………….
Clean off effect…..
Trusses
is a framed structural units made up of a group of triangles in one plane.
Typical truss shapes
span distances of 22 to 70 feet , but truss spans in modern construction may exceed 100 feet
