IAP
written of unwritten plan for the disposition of an incident…contains overall goals ,tactical strategic goal and support requirements for incident
Steps in decision-making process are
- identify and prioritize the problems
- Define the best solution
- Implement the solution
- Monitor the results
- Adjust the plan as necessary
To identify the problem , you must first
- gather facts based on the dispatch report
- check the preincident survey
- asses your personal observations
- asses your experience
NIMS-ICS
the U.S. mandated incident management system that defines the roles,responsibilities and standard operating procedures used to manage emergency operations, creates a unified incident response structure for federal,state,and local governments
NIMS common terminology
- command

Crew
specified number of personnel assembled for an assignment such as search, ventilation or hoseline deployment and operations
single resources
individual pieces of apparatus and the personnel required to make them functional
Task force
any combination of resources assembled for a specific mission or operational assignment
strike team
set number of resources of the same type and remain together and function as a team throughout an incident
span of control
maximum number of subordinates that one individual can effectively supervise…..ranges from three - seven with five being optimum
personnel accountability(PAR)
to track and maintain firefighter safety
IDLH (immediate dangerous to life and health)
environment must be assignedin crews of two or more and be close enough to each other to provide immediate assistance in case of need
two-in , two -out rule per OSHA 1910.134
the only exception to this rule listed in the OSHA mandate applies to firefighters performing a known rescue.
