What are the main reasons for goals?
Provide motivation and a way to evaluate performance
What are outcome goals?
Your performance versus others
What are performance goals?
Your performance against a standard
What are Process goals?
how you achieve performance and outcome goals
What does SMART stand for?
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, realistic, time bound
What is an objective?
A specific result aimed to achieve within a time frame and with available resources.
What advantage do objectives have over goals?
More specific and easier to measure
What are examples of business objectives?
minimise expenses, expand internationally or make a profit.
What are group norms?
Socially enforced, unwritten rules that govern a groups behaviour.
What are the disadvantages of group norms?
Some norms like a bad habit. May face consequences for not knowing they existed
What are implicit norms?
An assumption that there is a set way to behave with members within a group
What are explicit norms?
Written set of rules on how to act in the business
Why have norms?
- increase productivity
- achievement of goals
- Ensure everyone can contribute
What is a formal group?
People are performing set roles. Task orientated with a leader.
What is an informal group?
A group usually formed for social occasions, less likely to be a leader
