What is the law relating to recruitment?
A job vacancy ad cannot discriminate against an employee
What is the law relating to employees at work?
- An oral or written contract is made when a job is accepted
- Starting work means terms and conditions were accepted
What is the health and safety at work act 1974?
Building, machinery, procedures must be safe and safety training and policy need to be followed.
What is the equal pay law?
Men and Women are paid equal amounts for work of equal value
What is the work and families act 2006?
Paid leave for new parents and flexible working for young children
What is the data protection act 1984?
Data must be kept for a reason, and only passed to third party with consent
What are laws relating to social media?
Do not defame the business or competitors
What is whistle blowing?
if an employee has evidence of malpractice in the business without the fear of retribution
What are EU directives?
Must be applied by law, but implemented how each country decideds
What are EU regulations?
Must be adopted and applied in a specific way
What is the working time directive?
A worker cannot work more than 48 hours per week
What are redundancy laws?
Employee is entitled to redundancy payment based on time worked at the business
What are dismissal laws?
Dismissal has to be fair, require a verbal and written warning and allow the employee to appeal
What are the grievances laws?
Employee has someone to talk to informally or formally about any any issues
