Topic 11 Endocrine System: Receptor Specificity Flashcards
1
Q
- All hormones bind to receptors highly specific to them. Some hormones have receptors on almost all cells, while some have receptors only on specific tissue.

Q
- Receptors can be on the membrane or inside the cell, and hormone regulation can occur by increasing or decreasing the number of receptors in response to hormone amount.
- A single hormone can have different effects with the same external receptors if its signal transduction pathways or effector proteins differ.
- Negative feedback - the control point is the conduct of the effector, not the concentration of the hormone (the gland lags behind the effector)
a. Basically, if you have high blood glucose and asked what hormone level is expected, the answer would be high insulin
