What is the social action theory?

A

This is a way of viewing socialisation, emphasising social action.

Emphasises the active roles people have in shaping society/social life, i.e based on social action such as our interactions and negotiations with each other.

What is the Interactionist Approach

A

Is the study of how individuals behave within society. It is a theoretical process which stems from social processes

Interactionism works from the individual towards society and stresses the fact that it is people who actually create society.

1 - Society is created and maintained through social interactions
2 - Sports are studied in terms of how they are created and given meaning by people.

A

Equality in sport - DISCRIMINATION VS PREJUDICE

A

The explanation of equal opportunities given identifies discrimination and prejudice as important factors which can determine whether equality of opportunity is present within society or not.

Negative stereotypes can also adversely affect an individuals chances of taking part in sport.

A

A

Can you think of the six barriers to participation?

A

1 - Lack of time - Add physical activity into their daily routine.
2 - Negative social influences, poor PE experiences - Invite family and friends to exercise with you/clubs/Duke of Edinburgh.
3 - Lack of Motivation - Invite friends/join a club or exercise class.
4 - Lack of skill - Select activities that require less skills (walking/jogging).
5 - Lack of resources/costs of participation - Activities that require few facilities such as: walking, jogging, skipping etc.
6 - Family obligations/Domestic responsibilities - Exercise with children.
