Trapezius origin
Medial third superior nuchal line and external occipital protuberance, ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes and supraspinous ligaments C7-T12.
Trapezius insertion
Posterior border lateral 3rd of clavicle, medial border acromion, upper border spine of scapula.
Trapezius nerve supply
Spinal accessory nerve (XI)
Trapezius actions
Retracts elevates and laterally rotates pectoral girdle
Extend and laterally flex the neck.
Lower fibres can depress scapula.
Trapezius functions
Throwing a ball
Serratus Anterior origin
Anterior surfaces of the first 8 or 9 ribs
Serratus Anterior insertion
Anterior surface of medial border of scapula.
Serratus Anterior nerve supply
Long thoracic nerve C5, 6, 7
Serratus Anterior action
Protracts & laterally rotates the scapula
