Knee Extensors Flashcards
Name the knee extensors
Quadriceps Femoris, Tensor Fascia Lata
Name the muscles that make up the quadriceps femoris
Rectus Femoris, Vastus Lateralis, Vastus Medialis, Vastus Intermedius
Rectus femoris origin.
Straight head- Anterior inferior iliac spine
Reflected head- roughened area above the acetabulum.
Rectus femoris insertion.
Patella upper border and via ligamentum patellae to the tibial tuberosity.
Rectus femoris nerve supply
Femoral nerve, L2, 3, 4.
Rectus femoris actions
Hip flexion knee extension.
Rectus femoris function
standing up
Vastus lateralis origin.
Upper lateral part of intertrochanteric line, lower border of greater trochanter, lateral side of glue teal tuberosity, upper half of lateral lip of linear aspera.
Vastus lateralis insertion.
Base & lateral border of the patella, blends with rectus femoris.
Vastus lateralis nerve supply
Femoral nerve L2, 3, 4.
Vastus lateralis action.
Knee extension & acts as a stabiliser.
Vastus lateralis function.
Standing up.
Vastus Medialis origin.
Medial part intertrochanteric line, medial shaft of upper femur, med lip of linea aspera, med supracondylar line and adductor magnus tendon
Vastus Medialis insertion
medial border of patella
Vastus medialis nerve supply.
Femoral nerve L2, 3, 4.
