Fibularis Longus origin
The head and superior two-thirds of the lateral surface of the fibula
Fibularis Longus insertion
The base of the first metatarsal and medial cuneiform
Fibularis Longus nerve supply
Superficial fibular nerve (L5, S1, S2)
May also receive additional innervation from common or deep fibular nerves
Fibularis Longus action
Weak plantarflexor, eversion
Fibularis Longus function
Allows sole of foot to face laterally
Fibularis Brevis origin
Inferior two-thirds of the lateral fibular surface and anterior and posterior intermuscular septa of leg
Fibularis Brevis insertion
Lateral surface of the styloid process of the fifth metatarsal base
Fibularis Brevis nerve supply
Superficial fibular nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Fibularis Brevis action
Everts the foot, plantarflexes the ankle
Fibularis Brevis function
Allows sole of foot to face laterally
Fibularis Tertius origin
Distal 1/3rd of the fibula
Fibularis Tertius insertion
The base of the fifth metatarsal
Fibularis Tertius nerve supply
Deep peroneal nerve
Fibularis Tertius action
Assists the extensor digitorum longus to dorsiflex, evert and abduct the foot, assists with dorsiflexion
