The Imperative Flashcards
The imperative
How do you find the imperative in French?
One takes the ‘‘tu’’, ‘‘nous’’, ‘‘vous’’ forms of the present indicative and drobs the subject pronouns. This rule holds for all regular and irregular verbs except for ‘‘être’’, ‘‘avoir’’ and ‘‘savoir’’ which have irregular imperatives. With all ‘‘-er’’ ending verbs, as well as with those ‘‘-ir’’ ending verbs which are conjugated like ‘‘-er’’ in the present tense (‘‘ovrir’’, ‘‘couvrir’’) one also drops the ‘’s’’ from the second person singular verb form.
