What was the Cuban Revolution?
An armed revolt led by Fidel Castro against a U.S.-backed government controlled by President Batista.
Who was Batista?
A former Cuban soldier and president from 1940-1944.
What did Batista do in 1952?
He became President again by seizing power via a military coup and canceled the 1952 elections.
What did Batista do in his second presidency?
Created links with organized crime, unemployment was up 18% but Batista did little to nothing about it, and American businesses in Cuba were given preferential treatment.
What Batista communist?
No, he was anti-communist, and this made the perfect ally for the U.S.
Who/what did Fadel Castro do?
Fidel Castro, a lawyer and activist, made a legal battle to remove Batista but failed on Constitutional grounds.
How did Fidel fight?
He used Guerilla warfare, but he also switched the island over to Communism.

What was the bay of pigs invasion?
JFK supported a proposed takeover of Cuba by Cuban Exiles supported by the CIA.
What happened during the Bay of pigs invasion?
Unmarked U.S. bombers took off from Nicaragua (get shot up by the Cubans) and have to make a surprise landing in Florida – the surprise attack was blown.
What did Cuba rely on?
Soviet military aid.

Nuclear weapons began to be shipped to Cuba from the Soviet Union.

U.S.-made goods were no longer sent to Cuba.
