It was stronger, richer, larger, and more powerful.

A military invasion, but they were defeated.

They sought to trade first and set up small forts for the company’s protection.

They raised armies to protect their profit.

The companies paid sepoys or Indian troops loyal to the company to gain control of the Mughal empire.

Overthrow the Mughal empire and then drive out the French.

Tea, silk, spices, and opium.

Portuguese domination of South East Indian trade.

Wealthy dutch merchants.
What did the D.E.I.C build?
Armies, wage war, negotiate peace treaties and rule its territories.
What happened in 1641?
The Dutch forcefully removed the Portuguese from China and started a monopoly of the spice trade.

They could use military force to further trading goals in Asia.

They forged closer ties with local rulers when they married their daughters.
