12.3 Utilizing Nonstandard Technologies

A

Many products and systems emerge from research and development before they evolve into standard configurations or solutions. When the architect/engineer (A/E) is not familiar with specialized products to describe the best solution, performance specifying may be helpful. As sustainable design and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation become more commonplace, alternative solutions to the traditional construction are required Green roofs are an example of nontraditional roofing and require significant reconsideration of traditional roofing requirements.
