Statistics - Test 1 Flashcards
Parameter
numerical fact/measure collected from population data
Statistic
numerical fact/measure collected from sample data
Census
collecting information from an everyday member of a population
Representative Sample
a sample that has all/almost all of the characteristics of the population
Random sampling
sample drawn in a way that each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected
Data Set
the whole collection of data from a population or sample
Quantitative - Discrete
variables with countable values
only assume whole values with nothing in between
Quantitative - Continuous
variables that can assume any value in one or more intervals
Relative frequency
Number in category/ all of the values added together
Cumulative relative frequency
Everything from the beginning up to that category/ all values added
Midpoint
Two values added/2
Range
Largest - smallest
Chebyshev - given interval to find percent
U - M/SD or L - M/SD
then
1-1/k^2
Empirical rule - bell shaped curves ONLY
- given interval, find %
1SD (68%) = M +/- 1 * SD
2SD (95%) = “””””” 2 “”””
3SD (99.7%) = “””” 3 “”””
Empirical rule
- given percent, find interval
K= 1/2/3
M +/- k * SD
