What is SOLAS?

A

The objective of the Safety Of Lives At Sea (SOLAS) convention is to specify minimum standards for the construction, equipment and operation of ships.

Flag states are responsible for ensuring that ships under their flag comply with its requirements.

A

  • A passenger ship engaged on international voyage
  • A non-passenger ship of 500gt or more engaged on international voyages
