  • A lifebuoy equipped with a self-igniting light
  • A heaving line

  • 5th step from the bottom must be a spreader
  • Maximum 9 steps between spreaders
  • All steps rest firmly against the ship
  • Man-rope must be without knots
  • Pilot ladder to be secured to a strong point on the deck

What are the NO’s of the pilot ladder?

A
  • No shackles, knots or splices
  • Steps must be equally spaced
  • Steps must be horizontal and chocks under the steps must be highly secured
  • Spreaders must not be lashed between steps
  • Side ropes must be equally spaced
  • Steps should not be painted, dirty or slippery
