What is a risk assessment?
A risk assessment is a procedure that identifies hazards, assesses the likelihood of harm occurring, assesses the consequences and then identifies the safety measure to put in place to reduce the risks
What is a hazard?
A hazard is a source of potential harm or damage or a situation with potential for harm or damage
What is a risk?
A risk is the likelihood that a hazard may occur and the consequence of the hazardous event
What is a risk control measure?
A risk control measure is something that is put in place to control a certain type of job on board a vessel. For example a Permit to work.
What can PTW be used for?
They can be used for:
- Work in unmanned machinery space
- Entry into enclosed space
- Hot work
- Working aloft/overside
- General electrical (under 1000 volts)
- High voltage
How long is a PTW valid for?
PTW should be only valid for 24 hours and should be only signed off by an officer if all control measures have been put into place.
