What is the definition of continuous training? (+COF it trains)
1)working the entire body for a long period of time.
2)cardiovascular fitness
What is the definition of fartlek training? (+COF it trains)
1)A method of training for runners where the terrain and speed are constantly changing
2)speed and a bit of cardiovascular fitness
What is the definition of circuit training? (+COF it trains)
1)A series of exercises completed for a certain amount of time/reps after one another
2)Muscular strength,Muscular endurance and Power
What is the definition of interval training? (+COF it trains)
1)Physical training involving alternate stages of high and low intensity activity
2)speed,power and cardiovascular
What is the definition of plyometrics training? (+COF it trains)
1)Exercises where muscle uses maximum force in short intervals of time
2)power and speed
What is the definition of weight training? (+COF it trains)
1)involves shifting weight to increase the strength of the muscle using a programme of exercises
2)strength,endurance and power
What is the definition of aerobic fitness classes? (+COF it trains)
1)Mainly aerobic exercises to music, covering a variety of exercises
2)CVF,MS,ME and FLEX
What is the definition of body pump fitness classes? (+COF it trains)
1)Variety of exercises that use low weights with many reps
2)CVF,ME,FLEX,BC
What is the definition of pilates fitness classes? (+COF it trains)
1)Core exercises that focus on quality over quantity. Helps with relaxing and breathing
2)ME,MS and FLeX
What is the definition of yoga fitness classes? (+COF it trains)
1)Exercises that focus on poses and posture to help meditate, relax and breath
2)Balance and Flexibility
What is the definition of spinning fitness classes? (+COF it trains)
1)Aerobic and anaerobic cycling on a stationary bike
2)aerobic fitness,muscular endurance
What are the 6 methods of training?
Continuous
Fartlek
Circuit
Interval
Plyometrics
Weight
What are the 5 fitness classes?
Aerobic
Body pump
Pilates
Yoga
Spinning
Advantages of continusous training?
Improves cardiovascular fitness
Inexpensive
Can be done in a variety of places
Can be done alone or in a group
Disavantages of continuous training?
Does not improve anaerobic fitness
Some people find it boring
Advantages of fartlek training?
Can be done on a variety of terrains
Can include hill work, both uphill and down
Can include rest periods or can be continuous
Can include reps e.g. up the same hill several times
Disavantages of fartlek training?
There may not be suitable terrain nearby
Difficult for the coach to monitor unless he runs with the athlete
Advantages of circuit training?
Can combine many components of fitness
A good source of all round fitness
Can include both aerobic and anaerobic exercises
Disavantages of circuit training?
The circuit needs to be set up and well planned out
It is important to work hard on each circuit but people often pace themselves
Advantages of interval training?
Includes repeated sprints, which is anaerobic
Included a rest period
Includes repetitions of high-quality work that can get the heart rate nearly up to max
Disavantages of interval training?
Can be intense so needs full commitment
Some people find repeating intervals boring
Advantages of plymetrics training?
Exercises can be designed for a specific performances e.g. high jump
Improves explosive fitness
Disavantages of plyometric training?
Need knowledge of your event or a coach
Need to progress gradually, as rest and recovery are important
Advantages of weight training?
Can be used to improve strength, muscular endurance or power
Wide variety of exercises to choose from
Programme can eb specific ot muscle group
Easy to monitor progress and overload
