Soc 13-Joints,movement,ligaments And Joints Flashcards
What are the 4 classifications of joints? (+what they do)
- Pivot : Allows rotatory movement of bones around a single axis
- hinge : Allows flexion and extension of a joint, in only 1 direction
- ball and socket : Allows backward, forward, sideways and rotating movement
- condyloid : Allows for flexsion, extension, abduction and adduction
What are the 8 movements?
Flexsion
Extension
Dorsi-flexion
Plantor flexion
Abduction
Adduction
Rotation
Circumduction
What is flexion?
Bending movement that decreases the angle between body parts
What is extension?
Straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts
What is dorsixflexion?
Bending or flexing the toes up,closer to the shin
What is plantar flexion?
Extending of pointing the toes down, away from the shin
What is abduction?
Movement that pulls away from the middle of the body
What is adduction?
Movement that pulls towards the midline of the body
What is rotation?
Movement around a single axis or pivot point
What is circumduction?
Moving in a circular or conicol shape
Where is the pivot joint located?
Neck
Where is the hinge joint located?
Knee,elbow and ankle
Where is the ball and socket joint located?
Shoulder and hip
Where is the condyloid jount located?
Wrist
What is a tendon?
Tendons are non-elastic fibres that attach muscle to bone
