What is an open skill
One that is always changing and affected by the enviorment
What is a closed skill
One done in a stable enviorment not affected by the enviorment and the skill is habitual
What is a basic skill
A skill that is low is concentration with little info to process.
What is a complex skill
High in concentration with lots of information to process,difficult to break into phases
Example of a complex skill
Smash in tennis
Example of a basic skill
Side foot pass in football
What is a low organisation skill
Uncomplicated and simple skill,can usually break it down into phases
Example of a low organisation skill
Set shot in basketball
What is massed practice
Practiced till learnt,can be intense and challenging,no breaks
What is distributed practice
One practiced over many sessions with many rest breaks
What is a fixed practice
Practicing one single situation over and over until perfect
What is variable practice
Practicing the skill in a variety of different situations,easily adaptable and forces adaptation
Definition of guidance
Information to aid the learning of a skill,can be given visually,verbally,manually or mechanically
What is visual guidance
The coach showing the technique of a perfect model
Helps learner to visualise the skill
Most effective at early stage of learning
What is verbal guidance
Harder to understand but important for harder skills
Good for advanced performers
Ideal for open skills
What is manual guidance
Using physical contact to help somebody complete the skill.It can be used with learners of all abilities and increases the confidence of the individual
What is mechanical guidance
Using equipment to help a performer complete a skill
Very effective in early stages of learning
Helps athlete build confidence
What is the definition of feedback
Information recieved before during or after a performance about the performance
What is intrinsic feedback
Feedback that comes from the performer,An experienced player will know when something feels right or wrong
What is extrinsic feedback
Feedback that comes from an external source
Beginners tend to benefit more from it
Can motivate or demoralise performer
What is concurrent feedback
Provided during the performance
Feedback can be acted on immediatley
E.g communication from the sidelines
What is terminal feedback
Provided at the end of a game/performance
Feedback will be aimed at being more reflective and giving an overview of a performance
