Vitamins - used to fight infection and strengthen immune system
Minerals - Essential for a healthy body
Water - keeps our bodys hydrated
Fibre - adds bulf to food and aids the digestive system
Macro nutrients
Nutrients we use in the largest amounts, made up of carbohydrates, fats and proteins
Micro nutrients
Needed in the body in small amounts made up of , vitamins and minerals
Optimum weight
Made up of sex, height, age and under lying health conditions
Hydration
The essential amount of water required in the body not to dehydrate
Dehydration
A loss of water in the body
Carbo loading
Maximum storage of glycogen in the body providing energy
Metabolic rate
Is how quickly your body can generate energy from the food
Complex Carbohydrates
Found in natural foods, such as banana, brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta amd potatoes. Food of this type help to provide energy for exercise and should form about half of yourdaily intake.
Simple carbohydrate
Are found in their natural form in fruit and vegetables, and in their refined form innbiscuits cakes and confectionary.
