Soc 20. Levers Flashcards
What is a fulcrum?
The fulcrum is the pivot , around which the lever rotates.
What is the load?
The load is the force applied by the lever system, like a dumbbell in an arm curl.
What is the effort?
It’s the force applied by the user of the lever system supplied by your muscles.
What are the 3 classes of levers?
First class, second class, third class
What is a first class lever?
A lever where the fulcrum sits in the middle. It is at mechanical advantage -output is greater than input.
What is a second class lever?
A lever wherethe fulcrum sits on the side, but the load is in the middle and the effort on the opposite side. It is at mechanical advantage.
What is a third class lever?
Again the fulcrum is on the edge, however, the effort is in the middle and load the opposite side. At mechanical disadvantage - greater input than output.
