Soc 15. Structure Of The Heart Flashcards
What are the traits of an Artery?
Has a very thick wall and lots of muscles and elastic fibres. Also has a small lumen in comparison to the size of the artery.
What are the traits of the veins?
Relatively thin, with just a little muscle or elastic fibre. Lumen is relatively large compared to the size of the vein and has valves to stop back flow.
What are the traits of the capillary?
Capillary is tiny. The wall is one cell thick. The lumen is large enough for 1 red blood cell to squeeze through.
What is vascular shunting?
This is the process in which we make more blood flow around the body by increasing our heart beat and constricting our blood vessels to provide more oxygen around the body. Then we dilate the vessels rushing in oxygen and cooling you down.
What is a vein?
A tube that carries deoxygenated blood to the heart
What is the artery?
A muscular tube that carries blood away from the heart
What is a venous?
It is to do with the veins.
