Soc 14. Muscular Skeletal System Flashcards
Where is the deltoid?
Top of the shoulder, and it moves the arm in all direction from the shoulder.
Where is the pectoralis major?
It’s covering the chest, and it adducts arm at the shoulder.
Where is the latissmus dorsi?
Lower region of the spine to the bone in upper arm, adducts + extends arm at shoulder.
Where are the biceps?
Front of the upper arm, it flexes the arm at the elbow.
Where are the triceps?
Back of the upper arm and extends arm at the elbow.
Where are the external obliques?
Side of abdomen, lower half ribs to the pelvis. It pulls chest downwards flexing and rotating spinal column.
Where are your gluteals?
The buttocks, attached to femur. It adducts and extends leg at the end the hips pulling legs backwards.
Where are the hip flexors?
Deep in the front of the hip, pelvis, and abdomen. Flexes the hips, helps move the leg + knee up towards body.
Where are the quadriceps?
4 muscles found on the front of the upper leg, it extends leg at the knee.
Where is the hamstring?
Back of the leg, bottom part of the pelvis to the tibia, flexes leg at knee.
Where is the gastrocnemius?
Starts at the back of the femur and comes together with the soleus muscle to ferm the achilles tendon at the back of the ankle. Points toes towards the floor.
Where is the tibialis anterior?
Runs down the shin, pulls toes upwards towards the shin.
What are muscle fibres?
Muscle fibres make up voluntary muscles; divided into type 1, type 11a, and type 11x.
What is the type 1 fibre?
This is the slow twitch muscle fibre; suited to low intensity work e.g. marathon running, as they can be used for long periods without fatiguing.
What is the type 11a fibre?
It is a fast twitch fibre, used in anaerobic work; can be improved through endurance training to increase their resistance to fatigue.
