Soc 13 - Joints,movements,ligaments,tendons Flashcards
Name the 4 types of joints?
•Pivot
•Hinge
•Ball and socket
•Condyloid
What does the pivot do?
Allows only rotational movement in the neck.
What does the hinge do?
Allows flexion and extension in the ankles, knees and elbows.
What does the ball and socket do?
It allows backwards, forwards and sideways movement in the shoulders and hips.
What does the condyloid do?
Allows flexion, extension and abduction in the wrists.
Name the 8 movements of joints?
•Flexion
•Extension
•Adduction
•Abduction
•Rotation
•Circumduction
•Dorsi-flexion
•Plantar-flexion
Explain what flexion is?
Bending movements that decrease the angle between body parts.
Explain what Extension is?
bending movement that increases the angle between body parts.
Explain what Adduction is?
Movement that puls towards the midline of the body.
Explain what Abduction is?
Movement thay pulls away from the midline of the body.
Explain what rotation is?
Movement around a single axis or pivot point.
Explain what Circumduction is?
Moving in a circular or conical shape.
Explain what Dorsi-flexion is?
Bending or flexing the toes up, closer to the shin.
Explain what Plantar-flexion is?
Extending or pointing the toes down, away from the shin.
Sporting example of flexion?
Someone working out in the gym bends their arm up when doing a bicep curl.
