SLT Flashcards
What did albert bandura suggest
claimed classical and operant conditioning could not explain all human behaviour so suggested SLT
Give an assumption of SLT
- SLT suggests learning thru observing a model and imitating the model
Explain Identification
- Identification - individual associates themself w role model due to similarity status and wants to be like the role model
What is IMITATION
described when individual observes behaviour from role model and copies it
Explain viscarious reinforcement
person sees role model rewarded for particular behaviour then ⬆️ chance observer will imotate bh to recieve same reward
> indirect reinforcement
what does all them features lead to?
Modelling - process of imitating behaviour of role model
from role models view they are precisely showing the observer a specific bh to be imitated
What is the 4 mediational process
Attention
Retention
Reproduction
Motivation / Reinforcement
What is attention?
Learning occurs when they attend to a modal’s bh
our attention must be captured
what is retention
To reproduce modelled behaviour
store the memory in LTM
allowing bh to be remembered
more likely if info easy to store
or see daily/observed repeatably
What is reproduction
Individuals must have skills and capabilities to be confident so reproduce models bh
more likely if easy to replicate simply/easy to do so
What is motivation
individual must be motivated to imitate bh
as seen someone else rewarded for the bh or they indentify w the model
model has high status
What’s a stregnth of SLT
P - Prac apps
E - principles of theory - bh caused by observing and imitating a model
E - used by government to observe how media potrays certain bhs
restricted advs of cigarette 🚬 🍷 ⬇️ negative bh
L - important in applied psych helps promote positive bhs
