Skeleton!✨ 🦴 🩻 Flashcards
What is a skeleton and what does it support?
Animals’ bodies are supported by a skeleton.
What is an exoskeleton(and some animals that have one)?
An exoskeleton is a skeleton on the outside of the body, and it is had by insects and other anthropods.
Where is the skeleton and what is it made of?
The skeleton is inside your body, and is made up of bones.
What nutrients are required to make strong bones and why?
Bones are hard and strong, and contain calcium. If you do not have enough calcium in your diet, your bones may not grow properly. Bones contain living cells, so you also need protein in your diet to build strong bones.
What are joints?
Since bones cannot bend, joints are the place where two bones meet each other, and are the only place in the skeleton where movement happens.
What are hinge joints and how do they move?
Hinge joints are joints that let the bones move back and forth in one direction(like how the hinges of a door open and close the door)
What are ball-and-socket joints(how are they made) and how do they move?
Ball-and-socket joints let the bones move in a complete circle. At these joints, one of the bones has an end shaped like a ball, and the other has a cup, or socket, that the ball fits into.
