Fibre!✨🌾🥣 Flashcards
What is fibre?
Fibre, though not technically a nutrient, should be eaten plenty of in your diet.
Why is fibre not actually a nutrient?
Fibre is not actually a nutrient because when you eat it, you cannot digest it, so it does not go into your blood or your cells
Since fibre cannot actually be digested, how does it travel in the body and pass out of the body?
Since fibre cannot be digested, it instead just travels all the way through the digestive system and leaves the body as faeces.
Why is fibre important?
Fibre is important as it keeps the digestive system healthy by helping prevent constipation.
What is constipation?
Constipation is when the digestive system slows down and faeces collect inside of it, instead of being passed out.
What is fibre mostly made of, and what is also made out of this?
Fibre is mostly made of cellulose, which plant cell walls are also made out of, so foods made from plants are great sources of fibre.
What are some examples of foods that contain fibre, and what other nutrients do these foods include?
Cereal, grains, seeds, and fresh fruits and vegetables are all excellent sources of fibre, and are also great because they contain lots of different vitamins and minerals, too.
